Good afternoon my fellow Americans and classmates. My name is Angie Tyner and I am going to be your next president. Economy
Q: In 2001, our National Defense Budget was $280 billion dollars. After the attacks on September 11th, we have seen our defense budget continue to grow. Our National Defense budget is currently over $623 billion dollars. Do you plan to increase, decrease or maintain this budget? Make sure to explain your reasoning.
I Plan to stop the growth of the national defense budget and have it remain the same as it is now. I believe that since the terrorist attacks at the world trade center on september 11th 2001, the united states of america as a nation has worked and built a strong national security because nothing close to 9/11 has occurred since. I think that proves that what we’ve been doing is working and that we’re doing just the right amount.
Q: What programs (you must identify SPECIFIC programs) do you intend to cut from our National Budget to decrease our deficit? Explain.
I intend to raise the social security age to 70 years old. Our nation when we established social security did not anticipate the amount of people who would eventually be acquiring social security due to the baby boomer population who now is collecting social security. By raising the age, it will allow our nation to rebuild our funding and be more efficient in this program. Yes, once this is put into action, those who were previously collecting social security will no longer receive there’s until they reach the age of 70 although we will still have certain benefit plans available to those at age 62.
Foreign Policy
Q. Many of the campaign teams have addressed that they would intervene in foreign affairs if the United States was threatened. What is your definition of a threat and how would you respond accordingly?
If a foreign nation were to threaten the USA, i think that it would be important for america to intervene immediately and put a stop to it. America does not take threats lightly especially following the attacks of 9/11 therefore our nation would do all things necessary to protect the nation even if that means getting involved in more foreign affairs.
Q. On January 2, 2018, President Trump tweeted the following: “North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un just stated that the “Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times.” Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!” Do you believe a statement like this from the President of the United States is a sign of strength or is it damaging to the safety and security of the United States? Explain.
I think a statement like this should be considered damaging to the safety and security of the united states because it’s a threat. I don’t think we should be threatening other countries who are making it known that they have nuclear weapons.
Q. For many Americans, foreign affairs are not a topic they are knowledgeable. Do you believe that awareness of foreign policy issues is important for Americans? Why or why not? How do you plan to increase American engagement in foreign policy issues? Explain.
yes i Think it’s important for americans to be aware of foreign policy issues. i think it’s important to understand foreign policy when electing a president to office as well. I think the president should address the nation when it comes to foreign affairs to allow the people to understand what is occurring more efficently.
Q: President Trump is frequently accused of not acting “Presidential.” Define what it means to be President of the United States? How do you believe the President should conduct himself? Explain with specific examples.
The president should conduct himself as very professional and well poised. I think people say this about trump because of the things he tweets and his past history as being a celebrity. a president shouldnt be threatening nuclear warfare on other nations through twitter.
Education
Q. New York state recently passed the Excelsior Scholarship. Under this program 940,000 families in New York making under $125,000 a year will have the opportunity for free college tuition at a state university. Does your campaign team support the Excelsior Scholarship? Explain why or why not.
I support it to a limited degree, I feel that people who’s parents make $125,000 or more should not be subjected to excessive student debt so that others an graduate debt free. I happily support the idea that some families who greatly struggle need a law like this for their children to obtain a higher degree. At the same time I believe that a family with an income of $126,000 is put aside for this offer although they only make $1,000 more a year
Q. American public schools are in many ways more economically and racially divided than ever before with radically different performance outcomes. How do we ensure that all of America’s students have access to quality education. Be specific.
I think we have to insist that all public schools provide for the needs of all students wherever they’re in affluent neighborhoods or low income neighborhoods. For example, every school no matter where what town it’s in should have programs such as student council, yearbook club, habitat for humanity, and a world of difference. These clubs are great ways to bring together a community and get students involved. I believe that every school should encourage students to take the maximum amount of classes, rather than offering multiple off periods. Doing this would ensure that students are gaining the most amount of knowledge that they can before they enter the real world.
Q: How does your campaign team plan to make America’s schools safer and more secure? Be specific with your plan.
We plan to make schools a safer place by only allowing security guards to work at the school who are ex military members or ex police officers. We also plan to hold one lockdown drill a month so that students and teachers have the maximum preparation in the event that the school had to be put on lockdown. We also plan to put more tax dollars into security items such as metal detectors and bullet proof windows rather than on new equipment such as Macbooks. This does not take away from the fact that technology is an incredible source for school studies, but if children can already access computers, then we should not spend more money on better technology such such as iPads or Macbooks. I’m sure all parents and students would prefer a safer environment than having the ability to use an iPad for notes when you can easily use a pen and paper to take notes.
