Good afternoon my fellow Americans. My name is Jordana Bove and I hope to be your Vice President. I have a great sense of leadership as I have taken on the role as your class secretary for the last 4 years in Mepham High School. My partner Angie Tyner who is running for President has also been on the board with me as class treasurer. These positions comes with much responsibility. Angie Tyner and I have had a bond for the past 43 months in office together. That’s 1,290 days working hand in hand, representing our class, and most importantly fundraising money for prom. We have a great sense of pride that the prom tickets this year will cost $15 dollars less than last years tickets due to our hard work and dedication in fundraising. I haven’t only brought my leadership skills to Mepham High Schools class club but also to the mepham varsity kickline team. As a 4 year varsity competitive athlete, I have acquired many positive traits which I can bring to our nation as your Vice President. I have learned to never give up on yourself or what you believe in, I have learned to have more patience than ever before, I have learned that not everything in life will come easy, I have learned that you cannot cheat the grind. This means that you as an individual can not put forth 99%, you have to always give 100% and more to accomplish your goal. This is why I would never bail on my fellow Americans, just as I have never bailed on my fellow kickline team for 4 consecutive years. I have taken part in numerous community service based clubs such as A world of difference, Habitat for Humanity, Leo’s Club, Give Kindness, and Science Club. I have been inducted based upon academic excellence into several honor societies such as The National Honor Society, The National English Honor Society, The National Science Honor Society and Italian Honor Society. I am the Vice President of both the Italian Honor Society, and the National English Honor Society. I have gained experience of public speaking through being selected to attend and teach a seminar at the Human Rights Conference. I had the pleasure of educating both students and adults across Long Island on the topic of “targeted teens”. I am blessed to have had the incredible, once in a lifetime opportunity to attend LIU Post’s Summer Honors Institute on choosing a path in healthcare. Although I am very interested in politics, I am also interested in Nursing. Over the summer vacation, I spent a full week living on a college campus, being educated by college professors all so that I can gain knowledge on the topic of healthcare. My passion for nursing originates with the idea that I, Jordana Bove want to help anyone I possibly can, that’s why I want to be your Vice President. I want to touch the whole nations heart to better the United States of America. Whether it’s volunteering at St. Francis hospital, or raising money to end cancer in both Relay for Life and St. Baldricks, or volunteering at the Community Cupboard, or giving advice to 5th graders through Athletes Helping Athletes, or delivering pre-made food to homebound seniors through Meals On Wheels, I have had one goal in mind, and that is to make impact. One individual who I aspire to be like is 17 year old Emma Gonzalez. Emma is a survivor of the tragic Marjory Stoneman Douglas school shooting on February 14th 2018. After this horrific event, Emma rose to the top being an activist and advocate for gun control. While most would go through a depression and mourn, which is completely normal after losing a total of 14 students and 3 teachers, but Emma stood up to fight for what she believed in. Emma was a huge contributor to the March For Our Lives event in Washington DC last month, and the #nevergain movement. I admire the strength and passion that Emma Gonzalez has, and I hope to bring the same amount of strength and passion to office if I am elected Vice President. I hope to take some of Emma’s goals and turn them into a reality, such as increasing the age to purchase a gun to 21 years old, and banning the ability to purchase the pieces which turn a normal weapon into an assault rifle. These action of implementing common sense gun control laws would make our nation a much safer place due to the fact that there have been 27 mass shootings since the Parkland tragedy. The venues range from not only schools but to nightclubs, beaches, streets/highways, gas stations, homes, restaurants and parties according to Mic.com. There should be a massive increase in school safety such as mandating that there are enough security guards in the building, and correct locks on all doors. I believe in the 2nd amendment but these recurring incidents which end in death which could be prevented if our nation has a stronger policy regarding gun control. Do you want to be the next innocent victim? I didn’t think so. Emma’s strength reminds me of my goals in strengthening our country as a whole. I intend to build our military and negotiate peace accords and treaties pertaining North Korea. This plan would show our nation's strength, we’d show other countries that we have the ability to make war even though we favor peace. Negotiating fair trade deals will allow Americans to obtain better jobs outside of the country, and not just buy goods from other countries. This idea of better trade deals also ties into boosting our economy. If Americans are able to create more jobs by having better exports and reducing the trade deficit, then there will be more available jobs. An increase in jobs will lead to more Americans paying taxes and having money to spend. Another issue I am passionate in changing is giving Americans better access to a higher education. Colleges and universities should have less expensive tuition. In the event that that is incapable of happening then we need to lower the rates on federal student loans. Instead of limiting the ability to obtain a higher education or valuable degree. I know I can trust you on election day to vote Angie Tyner for president and me for Vice President. Thank you my fellow Americans, have a great night.
