My fellow Americans and piers, good afternoon, my name is Angie Tyner and I believe I should be your next president alongside my vice president Jordana Bove. Jordana and I both have proven our leadership skills and how responsible we are throughout the past four years here at Mepham High school. Myself being elected the class treasurer and Jordana being elected the class secretary, we have been working endlessly to support our class throughout various events and coordinated all aspects of our upcoming senior prom at the woodbury country club for the past four years. Not only have I been a class official for all of high school, but I've also been apart of Mepham Varsity Kickline for all four years of my high school career. Along with Kickline and being Treasurer, I also am apart of various clubs and honor societies here at Mepham. These extra curricular activities include Science Honor Society, English Honor Society, Leo Club, Science Club, Class Club, and Yearbook Club. By being apart of so many organizations, I've learned so much and built so many strong morals that have stuck with me. My kickline coach always said “leave it all on the floor”. If elected your president, I promise to work as hard as I can to help and build America by “leaving it all on the floor” or giving you all my 100 percent at all times.
I want to be your president to end gun violence. I intend to increase the age to purchase a gun to 21 because I believe that this would help to prevent gun violence in America but specifically gun violence in schools. So far in the past 12 weeks of the year 2018, there have been 17 deadly school shootings in America where at least one or more people have died and there have been 43 attempted school shootings so far this year according to CNN news. My running mate and I find this absolutely unacceptable and believe that change and regulations need to be implemented immediately. Not only do we plan to place common sense gun laws but we intend to increase security regulations in not only schools all across America, but in shopping malls, movie theaters, clubs and any public locations. These constant recurring fatal tragedies happen all too often and I firmly believe that we can put an end to gun violence in America through increase in security and gun control.
In the hopes to help make America a more safe environment, I plan to focus more attention on building a stronger military for our country and renegotiating peace accords and treaties with North Korea. By negotiating trade deals, we would be creating more American jobs to help close the unemployment gap in our country. By creating better trade deals and creating more American jobs, we would be rebuilding our economy as well. An increase in jobs will lead to more Americans paying taxes and having money to spend attributing to the bettering of our economy as a whole.
Jordana Bove and I also intend to make college more affordable for the common American. In this day in age, having a job that allows for a person to live a stable life, more often than not, requires a college education. Most college tuitions of a standard four year university add to around $100,000, and many middle class American families have more than one college tuition to be paying for. Most students are forced into taking out loans in order to receive a higher education. I strongly believe that lowering federal student loan rates is extremely important to change. We need to make going to college and getting a better education more realistic for low income families.
On behalf of Jordana Bove and my entire executive board, I would like to thank you all for your time and I trust that you will make the write decision in voting Tyner-Bove in office. Let’s make America a safer place, together.
